First-Ever Case of Down Syndrome in Neanderthals

Researchers have documented the first case of Down syndrome in Neanderthals, revealing altruistic behaviour in caring for a child named Tina, who had severe disabilities. Found at Cova Negra, Spain, this discovery highlights Neanderthal empathy and complex social structures. Down syndrome, a condition caused by an extra copy of chromosome 21, results in developmental delays and physical challenges. It arises from an error in cell division during foetal development rather than being inherited.

NITI Aayog Issues Guidelines on Steel Slag Road
