The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection or IBPS is an organisation that conducts various exams for recruiting aspiring candidates into the banking sector at various positions like the SO, PO, bank clerk, etc. These exams are most sought after by candidates who seek jobs in the bank sector and each of these exams have some common and some different sections which carry different marks and weightage.
Many candidates appear for the IBPS exams out of which only a few succeed. There are a lot of factors that help a candidate to succeed, one of which is the scoring pattern of the exams. Knowing the scoring pattern of the exam will help the candidates to prepare for the IBPS exams successfully.
Through this article we will look at the scoring pattern for the IBPS exams and understand how the scoring is done.
How are the scores calculated for the IBPS exam?
One of the important parameters in the scoring pattern is the cut off, which is the minimum score a candidate needs to clear the exam. The cut offs for various exams conducted by the IBPS are different.
To calculate the marks of the candidates, the IBPS follows a few steps, which are as follows:
The candidates need to examine the questions and the answers given by them to analyse the potential marks they may obtain.
There is negative marking, which means for every wrong answer marks will be deducted, similarly for every right answer marks will be added.
The negative marks that a candidate gets are deducted from the final score of the candidate.
After the deduction of the negative marks, the remaining score is the final score of the candidate.
Another factor that comes into play in the scoring pattern is the total weighted score or TWS. this score is calculated using the following formula:
Total scores obtained = standardised marks obtained in ( reasoning ability + quantitative aptitude + general awareness + computer knowledge + ½ English knowledge + ½ descriptive paper)
Apart from the marks of the common written exam and online exam, the marks of the interview are also considered in the final score of the candidate. The marks of Common Written Exam or CWE are out of 200 and those for the interview are out of 100, but the final score is calculated out of 100.
This can be achieved by multiplying the marks obtained in Common Written Exam or CWE by 0.4 and the marks obtained in interview by 0.4.
While preparing for the IBPS examination, it is important for all candidates to understand the scoring pattern of the IBPS exam and study accordingly. This will help the candidates to prepare for each section of the exam efficiently. Also knowing about the negative marks will help the candidates to understand the consequences of marking the wrong answers.
