The RRB NTPC Exam candidates must keep themselves well-versed with the RRB NTPC Syllabus and RRB NTPC Exam Pattern, as both are critical for exam success.
The Railway Recruitment Board decides the RRB NTPC Syllabus.
The exam recruits candidates for different positions in the Indian Railways throughout the country, ensuring a promising future for those who wish to work for the railways.

RRB NTPC Exam Pattern
The RRB NTPC Exam pattern consists of:
- 1st stage of CBT – Prelims
- 2nd stage of CBT – Mains
- Typing Test
- Document Verification
- Medical Examination
- Final Selection
The board publishes the final list of candidates selected, and the exam cut off on the regional RRBs’ websites.
*Please note that the typing test is only for applicants who have qualified for the roles of Senior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist, Senior Time Keeper, Junior Clerk cum Typist, Accounts Clerk cum Typist, and Junior Time Keeper, and negative marking would subtract around 1/3rd of the total marks.

Candidates should qualify for both tests to move on to the next stages of the RRB NTPC exam.
RRB NTPC Marking Pattern
The Normalization of marks to calculate a candidate’s final marks has been revised by the Railway Board. Here is the notice released by the RRB for the revised formula.
Typing Test for RRB NTPC Exam
The RRB NTPC Exam’s typing test is a skill-based exam of qualifying nature and will not be counted for the final merit list. The test is conducted for the following posts:
- Senior Clerk cum Typist
- Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist
- Senior Time Keeper
- Junior Clerk cum Typist
- Accounts Clerk cum Typist
- Junior Time Keeper
Other relevant factors for the skill test include the following:
- The typing exam will be held for a number of candidates equal to eight times the number of positions open.
- Candidates must be able to type 30 words per minute (WPM) in English or 25 WPM in Hindi on a computer without using any editing or spell-checking software.
RRB NTPC Exam – Medical Examination Phase
Candidates must pass a physical fitness test conducted by the Railway Administration to ensure that they are physically fit to fulfil the duties associated with the position they have chosen. One of the most significant medical fitness criteria for railway employees is their visual acuity.
RRB NTPC Exam – Document Verification Page
Candidates equal to the number of vacancies will be called for Document Verification based on their results in the 2nd Stage CBT and their performance in both the 2nd Stage CBT and the CBAT/TST (as applicable).
Also, candidates who account for 50% of the number of vacancies for different positions (which can increase or decrease at the sole discretion of RRBs) may be called for document verification.
