Preparation Strategy For SBI PO

In order to attempt the SBI PO exam properly, one must follow the SPM strategy i.e. Syllabus, Previous Year Papers and Mock Test Strategy. But before we discuss the strategy, it is best to look at the exam pattern first!

SBI PO Preparation Tips for Prelims and Mains exams

General Tips for both the prelims and mains exam – 

  • One must revise from previous years’ question papers thoroughly.
  • One must repeatedly revise critical topics i.e. those that have more weightage in the exam.
  • One can use multiple modes of revision such as video tutorials, handmade notes, toppers notes etc.
  • One must build their preparation section wise and allocate time accordingly too.
  • One must attempt both sectional and full-length mock tests and analyse his or her performance in each test.
  • One must gain complete clarity about all concepts.
  • One must master shortcuts through repeated practice, in order to attempt maximum questions in minimal time.
  • Minimise guesswork as incorrect responses attract penalties.
  • Avoid spending too much time on a single question.

Section-wise SBI PO Preparation Tips for Prelims and Mains exams – 

  • English section – brush up your vocabulary and grammar through reading and practice. Focus on topics such as Reading Comprehension, Cloze test, FIBS, Para jumbled, Word interchange, Match the Clause and Incorrect usage form as these have maximum questions coming from them.
  • Reasoning Section – is one area where scores can be maximized and hence, the candidate must focus on concepts such as Symbols and Puzzles (Linear Arrangements, Circular Arrangements, Distribution and Comparison), Input-Output and Data Sufficiency.
  • Quantitative Aptitude – attention must be paid to questions on Simplifications, Approximations, Missing and Wrong Number Series, Data Interpretation, Quadratic comparisons. 
  • Computer Aptitude – candidates are to have a basic knowledge of computer software and hardware such as operating systems, LAN and WAN, Basic MS office, etc.
  • General Awareness – information of this must be gained from daily newspaper reading and magazines. One must focus on areas such as Indian economy, Marketing, Awards and Honours, Indian Constitution, Banking, Agriculture, Sports, etc. Special attention must be paid to Banking terminologies.

Preparation for SBI PO Descriptive paper – 

  • One has to build a strong vocabulary.
  • One has to practice essays based on recent events.
  • One must practice formal letter writing on various topics to boost confidence.
