Sex Ratio at Birth Drops in Haryana

Haryana recorded a concerning decline in its sex ratio at birth (SRB) in 2024, reaching an eight-year low of 910 girls per 1,000 boys. This marks a significant drop from the peak of 923 in 2019. Activists attribute this to weakened enforcement of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act (PC-PNDT) and persistent societal biases favoring male children. The government has pledged stricter enforcement, including replacing underperforming officials and conducting regular raids to curb illegal practices.

Concerns Over UAPA (1967)
