Coding and Decoding Faster and Better Approach

Coding and decoding is the topic which falls under the reasoning ability section of the bank exams. The questions based on this topic have a code which needs to be decoded by the candidates to get the suitable answer. Such questions can often be tricky and time consuming to solve. This is why candidates often look for some easy tips and tricks to solve such questions.

In this article we shall have a look at some tips and tricks which can give you a faster and better approach to solve the questions that are based on coding and decoding. But first let’s see the type of questions which you might get under the coding and decoding topic.

Types of Coding and Decoding Questions

There are various types of questions which can be asked based on the coding and decoding topic in the reasoning ability section. However, the most common types of questions are alphabet coding, numerical coding, symbol based coding, alphabet-symbol numerical coding, values coding, substitution coding and decipher coding.

The questions asked can be of any nature from the above types of coding and sometimes prove to be hard to solve. However, if you have a few tricks up your sleeve you can easily get through these questions successfully.

What is the faster approach to solve coding and decoding questions?

To solve the coding and decoding questions in the reasoning ability section, you would need to follow a few tips and tricks which would help you to solve these questions correctly and in a lesser time period. Some of these tips are as follows:

. Remember, while solving a coding and decoding question, always read the question carefully and note down the important codes.
. The next step is to analyse this code and try to decode it. Sometimes a similar type of decoding can be applied to multiple codes. This will help to make the problem solving process quicker if you are able to find out which is the decoding that fits multiple codes.
. A code can be often tricky and have some values which does not necessarily mean anything. While decoding, it is important that you analyse these values and eliminate them, to make the process easy.
. The most important approach you can use while preparing for the coding and decoding topic is to solve multiple mock tests and papers to practice solving such questions in time and developing analytical skills which would help in solving the questions in the competitive exams.
. Let’s go through a quick example to understand the decoding approach better,

For example: in a code, “APPROACH” is written as “BQQSPBDI”, what can be the decoding process if you want to write another code for the word “FAST”?

Let’s first analyse the code,
As we know the letter “A” is converted to “B” and B is the letter that follows A in the alphabet. Also, Q is the next letter to P, S is next letter to R, P is the next letter to O, B is the next letter to A, D is the next letter to C and I is the next letter to H.

So, by following this process, the word “FIRST” can be coded as “GJSTU”, as G is the next letter to F, J is the next letter to I, S is the next letter to R, T is the next letter to S and U is the next letter to T.

The above is one approach which can be used while solving the coding and decoding questions in the competitive examinations. You can use this approach as it can help you to solve these questions quicker.
